Carya illinoensisPecan Family: Juglandaceae Identification:
Note: An excellent tree in the landscape for shade and nut production. Large specimens can be found throughout campus. Unfortunately, the deep growing tap root of this species limits nursery production of large specimens. Landscapers are forced to plant small container-grown plants that are no more than a 6-foot stem with a few leaves. In today’s landscape where a finished look is desired, these small whips are not as frequently planted. Campus Location: Acadian Hall, west lawn |
